Moreover, it brings back something that has been dreadfully missing over the past few years — actually working and interacting with clients. Last year, this element was virtually absent as the show’s idea of work seemed to be characters holding the phone or crying about “quotas.”

- Movie Review: Promised Land
Posted on 28 Dec 2012 in Movies, Movies & TV
In certain movies, there comes a single moment that completely changes one’s opinion of it. It can be due to an unnecessary twist, an out-of-character action, or the film completely switching gears, but really any individual thing can cause viewers to re-evaluate how they view a movie. I will not spoil Gus Van Sant’s new movie Promised Land, but, suffice it to say, it has one of those, which I will call Moment X for purposes of this review.

- The Worst High Profile Christmas Movies Ever Made
Posted on 17 Dec 2012 in Movies, Movies & TV
The tone for the entire film is mostly depressed, angry, pessimistic, and confused, which is best evidenced by Fred himself, a repo man who steals Christmas presents for his own apartment. He is a total jerk, and more of a depressed burnout than the fun-loving slacker that the trailer makes it seem.

Salles treats the material with a needless seriousness. It brings the bodies of the chapters of the book, but not their souls. It shows sex-and-drug fueled parties without imbuing them with the spirit of those moments and thus they become very repetitive and boring.

- Movie Review: Red Dawn

Unlike the original film, which begins the invasion with an eerie sequence as paratroopers silently float into the schoolyard, this one makes sure to hit you with sounds blaring. Houses rattle, planes fall out of the sky, guns rat-a-tat-tat, and thousands of paratroopers occupy the sky. It lacks the visceral impact from the first film and doesn’t provide anything of comparable intensity. However, it does prepare you for the rest of the movie — a redundant exercise of gunfire and explosions.
