The World without Us by Alan Weisman
Being educated in natural resource conservation and a die hard apocalyptic sci fi fan, I was just in heaven with this book. Without any specific doomsday scenarios it discusses the degradation/dissolution of our entire real world infrastructure if one day, we were simply no longer here.
There appears to be a decent bibliography, but the citations are lacking... so, the work is on you to follow up on conclusions... paradigms are pretty close to current teachings... Forest ecology and invasive species management folks are going to love it.
Regardless, it is a thought provoking and entertaining read. Written in a style to engage the layman with interest in the topic as well as professionals working in the scenarios addressed.
Man, forgive me for being an ecology nerd but, I just loved this book. It truly speaks to our being a part of the global ecology. We are making an impact, will continue to do so once we are gone, and then in time; humans will be no more than one more dinosaur in the tar pit, Ha!!!
Read this book!!!
Cheers,
C
Without us, Earth will abide and endure; without her, however, we could not even be.
