I wouldn't knock Dorothy Dunnett - her Niccolo series is impressive and the Lymond series even more so if you don't mind a bit of Renaissance Latin/French thrown in. I have a lot of respect for good historical fiction because you have to be creative and know the past well at the same time. I look forward to Gibson's book and appreciate the interview.

I read Gibson's latest after finishing Dorothy Dunnett's "Niccolo Rising" series. It felt like an outline of a book compared to the richness of Ms. Dunnett's work. His threadbare approach to writing bores me.
