Like a painting, its carefully-chosen title is the main theme and purpose for being. And the feeling of being unresolved and having shifting consciousnesses are apt responses for how we all feel after dark.

The book is the equivalent of an Edward Hopper painting (pick one) and very much is a mood piece detailing its time setting. So can i assume that the man in the mask is simply just a figment of her dream, and all similarities in her dream, such as her pencil, are just coincidences, with the man that abused the prostitute?

okay im actually not sure from which part is Eri dreaming? He actually writes page turners.

One of my favorite authors ever, and generally a joy to read. As for one thing I was dissapointed in was the development between Takahashi and Mari. I expected something more, especially out of Takahashi. His determination only got him an adress.

I definitely think the ending was sufficient enough. Although Murakami doesn't explicitly set forth what happens to the businessman, it's implied very well from the buildup in the book. I disliked the businessman more and more until the end, so I can imagine whatever just end for him that I wanted.

I actually thought the ending was very satisfying. But i was somewhat disappointed by the flow of the events but then it turned out right and the ending was quite "hanging"

The story was fascinating because it was the first time that i have read a novel with a narrator in plural form.
