'These people' eh? Could you have provided a more pathognomic display of orientalism?
'Bemused' you say? Well, having compared 9/11 and the Rushdie book burning without so much as a glimmer of understanding, i'm surprised.

The life of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was a practical demonstration of the Holy Quran; it was the explanation of the Holy Quran. It is not necessary to have Jerusalem mentioned in the Holy Quran for that city to become a city of reverence to the Muslims.

gives four Traditions indicating that it is acceptable for a Muslim to go on a journey specifically to visit the Masjid at Jerusalem. So, the Masjid Al-Aqsa is the property to be guarded by all Muslims, unlike the Babri Masjid in India which was to be guarded by the local Muslims alone.

From their claims on Jerusalem as their third most holy site, one would suppose that Mohammed actually spoke in the Koran of that city or the Byzantine churches built on the ruins of the Temple Mount.

The life of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was a practical demonstration of the Holy Quran; it was the explanation of the Holy Quran.
