However, in terms of the political process, what powers the next president has to respond to the challenge is a fundamental question that every American should be concerned about - before and not after 4th November, 2008. There is a core point I believe that all concerned voters should focus on and question ( which has both very wide domestic and foreign policy implications) - what will Obama do in respect of the compromise of the Constitution as reflected in the Bush/Cheney ( or is that Cheney/Bush) doctrine of the "unitary executive"? This doctrine has yet to be addressed unequivocally by Obama - and - while it can safely be asssumed that a McCain presidency will continue along that path - what will Obama do in response to this perversion and compromise of the US Constiution - the "unitary executive"?
P.S. Does anyone consider this a central and very important question - best answered before, and not after 4th November?

It is self-evident and true that there is a primary economic challenge to be met by the next president.
